A24's Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything won the Halloween weekend box office in North America, edging Warner Bros.' DC film Clayface by just over $200,000 in one of the closest finishes of the year. The documentary took an estimated $10.6 million from 30 October to 1 November, ahead of Clayface at $10.4 million, according to Rentrak figures.
The win is the documentary's first weekend at number one after two weeks at number two. Directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, the film follows Holmes in the 34 days before she reported to prison, and it has now collected $63.9 million domestically — a remarkable total for a documentary, and one that connects to our earlier coverage of Holmes herself in the Jamie Lee Curtis and Jimmy Fallon Elizabeth Holmes spoof on The Tonight Show.
The overall marketplace was quiet, with total ticket sales of about $55.7 million, down 42.1% from the previous weekend, as Halloween falling on Saturday kept many audiences at home. The top 10 films together collected about $47.2 million. Final figures, due Monday, could still swap the top two, given the narrow margin.

What the numbers mean
You Can See Everything actually fell 43% from last weekend, but it expanded to 3,243 theatres, and that wider footprint was enough to carry it past Clayface, which dropped 57% in its second weekend. Clayface still leads worldwide for the weekend at $22.8 million, taking its global total to about $83 million against a $44 million production budget.
Laika's animated fantasy Wildwood held third with $7.5 million, while Wicker, starring Olivia Colman and Alexander SkarsgÄrd, showed the strongest staying power in the top 10, slipping just 28% and also opening at number one in the UK. Sony's Resident Evil passed $400 million worldwide in its seventh weekend, and Universal's Other Mommy passed $107.5 million worldwide.
The next shake-up arrives this week, with Ramayana: Part One opening on Thursday, ahead of the Christmas releases including King, covered in our Kareena Kapoor King announcement.
