Week 8's Sunday slate delivered almost everything the NFL promises: a rout, a first defeat for the league's last unbeaten team, and two overtime thrillers. The Buffalo Bills ran away from the Baltimore Ravens 36-10 in Orchard Park, the Detroit Lions ended the Minnesota Vikings' perfect start with a 19-15 win, and the Arizona Cardinals stunned the Dallas Cowboys 33-30 in overtime.

The biggest story of the day came in Buffalo, where the Ravens lost starting quarterback Lamar Jackson to a thumb injury on his throwing hand on his first pass attempt of the game, according to Reuters and ESPN's live coverage. Jackson was ruled out, and Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said after the game that Jackson needs surgery on his thumb and will be placed on injured reserve. Backup Tyler Huntley was also hurt in the first half, leaving Baltimore short at the game's most important position. Allen, meanwhile, completed 21 of 34 passes for 289 yards and set the Bills' franchise record for career touchdown passes, per Reuters.

In Detroit, the Lions ended the Vikings' unbeaten run in an NFC North showdown. Minnesota had led 15-12 in the fourth quarter after a two-point conversion, but Goff found Jameson Williams for a seven-yard touchdown with 4:40 left, and Detroit's running game — 230 yards on the ground, including a 30-yard Jahmyr Gibbs touchdown — closed the game out. The Lions have now won three straight, while the Vikings fall to 6-1.

The Cardinals' win in Dallas was the day's wildest finish. Arizona trailed for much of the afternoon before rallying, and kicker Chad Ryland — who had missed a point-after attempt that would have won the game with six seconds left in regulation — made amends with a 42-yard field goal in overtime. The Cardinals have now beaten Dallas five times in a row and improved to 5-0 at AT&T Stadium since it opened in 2009, per Sportsnet's roundup.

These results were the payoff to the Sunday slate previewed in our NFL Sunday November 1 preview, and they set up the nightcap covered in our Sunday Night Football Eagles vs Commanders guide — a divisional game with the loser sliding to last place in the NFC East.
