Netflix dropped the trailer for Trinity on 4 November, and it looks like the streamer's next big thriller. The show stars Richard Madden and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and it comes from Jed Mercurio, the man behind Bodyguard and Line of Duty.

Madden and Mercurio worked together before, on Bodyguard. That show made Madden a star in a whole new way. Fans have waited a long time for the pair to team up again, and Trinity is the result.

What is Trinity about?

Mbatha-Raw plays Commander Katherine Decker. She is second-in-command aboard the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine. Her job is already high-pressure. Then she forms an unlikely bond with the US Secretary of Defense, Webb Preston, played by Madden.

That bond pulls her into a dangerous game around a top-secret programme code-named Trinity. The trailer shows Decker close to a launch decision at sea, with targets that suddenly vanish from radar. It does not give the twists away. It just sets up the question at the heart of the show: who can she trust?

It is the kind of tense, twisty series that fans of Stephen Graham's Nocturne on Apple TV will recognise, though Trinity is its own story, with its own cast and world.

When does Trinity come out, and where can you watch it?

Trinity arrives on Netflix on Tuesday, 1 December 2026. All the episodes land on the same day, so you can watch the full season at once. You will need a Netflix subscription to stream it.

Netflix has had a busy run of new series guides on this site lately, from The Greatest on Prime Video to its film coverage, but Trinity is a straight Netflix original, made by 20th Television.

Mercurio created the show, wrote it and runs it as showrunner. Michael Cuesta directed the first two episodes. Cuesta has worked on Homeland and Daredevil: Born Again, so the show is in safe hands on the directing side too.

Why fans are excited

Bodyguard is still one of the most talked-about thrillers of recent years. Madden played David Budd, a protection officer with a past he could not shake. Trinity gives him a very different kind of power role, on the other side of the table.

Mbatha-Raw, meanwhile, has built a strong run of her own, from Loki to Surface. Putting her at the centre of a submarine thriller, with Madden as the man she may or may not be able to trust, is a smart pairing. The trailer leans into that tension, not into big action set pieces.
