The Greatest Is Out Today

Prime Video has dropped all eight episodes of The Greatest today, Wednesday, November 4, 2026. It is the first scripted series about Muhammad Ali made with his family's backing, and it follows the young Cassius Clay on his way to becoming Ali.

Newcomer Jaalen Best plays Clay. The series starts with his gold medal win at the 1960 Olympics in Rome and runs through to his first heavyweight title fight against Sonny Liston in 1964. It is a coming-of-age story as much as a boxing story, set in a changing America.

Ben Watkins created the series and runs the show. Watkins is best known for creating Cross. Ali's widow, Lonnie Ali, is an executive producer, along with Michael B. Jordan. That family backing is why the show is billed as the first authorised scripted series about Ali's life.

All's Fair season 2 also lands today, so it is a busy day for new streaming shows. But The Greatest has the bigger cast list. Here is the main line-up:

How to watch The Greatest

The Greatest streams only on Prime Video. All eight episodes are live now in the US and in more than 240 countries and territories. You need a Prime Video subscription to watch. There is no weekly wait, so the full arc from Olympic gold to the Liston fight is there from day one.

Is The Greatest a true story?

Yes, up to a point. The series dramatises real events from Ali's early life, from Rome in 1960 to the Liston fight in 1964. It is a drama, not a documentary, so some scenes are written for the screen. The big beats are real: the Olympic gold, the return to a segregated Louisville, and the rise to the heavyweight title.
