Eric Dane's final book is out today. My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments went on sale on 3 November 2026, eight months after the actor died at 53.
Dane wrote the book in the last year of his life. He went public with his ALS diagnosis in April 2025, and he died on 19 February 2026. The book looks back at his career and his family life, and it looks ahead to the days his daughters will live without him.
His Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi narrates most of the audiobook. Elordi played Nate Jacobs, the on-screen son of Dane's character Cal Jacobs, in all three seasons of the HBO show. Maria Shriver, whose Open Field imprint published the book, also lends her voice to the audiobook. It runs for 5 hours and 53 minutes.
Dane's former wife Rebecca Gayheart spoke about the book on Today on Tuesday. It was her first broadcast appearance since his death. She talked with Shriver about the memoir and about how Dane came to value life more after his diagnosis.
Gayheart and Dane married in 2004. They had two daughters, Billie and Georgia, born in 2010 and 2011. Dane wrote the book in part for them, so they would have his words to read and keep.
Dane was best known as Dr. Mark Sloan, "McSteamy", on Grey's Anatomy. He played the role from 2006 to 2012 and came back for a dream sequence in season 17. He also starred as Tom Chandler in The Last Ship and as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, the show that also made Zendaya a household name.
