Dancing With the Stars moves to Monday night this week for its Disney Night special, airing tonight, 2 November, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, with Wicked star Cynthia Erivo joining the judges' panel as guest judge. The eight remaining couples perform routines inspired by Disney's Broadway musicals, and one couple will be eliminated at the end of the two-hour episode.
The Monday slot is a one-week change: the show usually airs on Tuesdays, but ABC is clearing Tuesday 3 November for its midterm election coverage. The show returns to Tuesdays the following week, on 10 November, for Grammy Night. As covered in our Saturday Night Live Halloween recap, the weekend's big live TV events have been drawing strong reactions, and Disney Night is the week's next appointment viewing.
Erivo, who played Elphaba in Wicked and Wicked: For Good, joins regular judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, Shirley Ballas and Bruno Tonioli for the night. Broadway performers including Heather Headley, Michael James Scott, Rodney Ingram and Kyra Belle Johnson are also taking part, performing live alongside the couples.
Pro Adele Zaikman sits out after falling ill
New professional dancer Adele Zaikman announced she will miss Disney Night after falling ill. In a message shared on her Instagram Stories, she wrote: "I'm sadly feeling unwell and won't be performing in the opening number on Dancing With the Stars tomorrow. I'm so sad to miss a show day, but I'll be taking this time to take care of myself. Sending so much love to everyone on that ballroom floor. I'll be cheering you on from home."
Zaikman won the summer spin-off Dancing With the Stars: The Next Pro to join the season 35 professional line-up, and she and celebrity partner Conner Leavitt were the first pair eliminated, on the season's opening night. She had still been appearing in group numbers, and reports say troupe dancers are stepping in to cover her parts in the opening number and team dances.
Disney Night dances and team dances
This week also brings the first team dances of season 35, with the eight couples split into two groups competing for extra leaderboard points. Team Slaytopia dances to "Zoo" from Zootopia 2, while Team Wildcats take on "We're All in This Together" from High School Musical. Hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough each join one team for the numbers.
| Couple | Dance and song |
|---|---|
| Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach | Samba to "Under the Sea" from The Little Mermaid |
| Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold | Waltz to "I See the Light" from Tangled |
| Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson | Jazz to "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" from Mary Poppins |
| Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas | Jive to "You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" from Peter Pan |
| Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy | Quickstep to "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast |
| Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa | Paso Doble to "Satisfied" from Hamilton |
| Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov | Quickstep (Disney Broadway night) |
| Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik | Contemporary (Disney Broadway night) |
The stakes are rising fast: last week's Horror Movie Night ended in a double elimination, with Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess and Jackson Olson and Emma Slater both sent home, and Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson earned the season's first perfect score. With the finale set for 24 November, only three weeks remain after tonight, as previewed in our look at this week's TV premieres.
