Cynthia Erivo revisited the magical world of Oz with a comedic twist during her hosting appearance on "Saturday Night Live UK." The actress starred in a parody sketch titled "Nigerian Wicked," which put an alternate comedic spin on the dynamic between the beloved characters Elphaba and Glinda.

A Role Reversal for the 'Wicked' Star
While Erivo famously portrays Elphaba in the feature film adaptations of the musical, the low-definition television parody featured a major swap. Erivo took on the character of Glinda, playing opposite cast member Ayoade Bamgboye, who stepped into the role of Glinda's counterpart, Elphaba.
The satirical sketch leaned into dynamic moments between the Shiz roommates, referencing elements often discussed by fans of the franchise. It depicted classic scenes, such as Glinda attempting to give Elphaba a total makeover, while infusing exaggerated dramatic beats. At one point, Glinda slaps Elphaba for being "classless" and critiques her for eating a hardboiled egg.
Journey to 'LagOz' and the Emerald City
The sketch incorporated romantic tension between the two characters, featuring intimate, steamy moments where the pair nearly kissed before pulling away. This playful dynamic acknowledged longstanding fan discussions regarding a potential sapphic connection between the two leads.
The storyline followed the duo as they traveled to "LagOz" to consult with the Wizard, played by Hammed Animashaun. Upon their arrival in the "Emerald, White and Emerald City," the characters presented the Wizard with their demands. Glinda asked for a luxury Birkin bag, while Elphaba requested a "skinny BBL that defies gravity." However, their journey quickly hit a comedic snag when the Wizard revealed that he was completely broke.
A Comedic Finale and Musical Guest Appearance
The sketch concluded with one final near-kiss between the two characters. It wrapped up with Bamgboye attempting to sing the iconic, powerful vocal climax made famous by Erivo in the signature anthem "Defying Gravity."
In addition to Erivo's hosting duties and sketch appearances throughout the night, the episode of "Saturday Night Live UK" featured indie rock group Blossoms as the musical guest.
As "Saturday Night Live UK" continues its run, the parody serves as another example of guest hosts satirizing their own high-profile cinematic projects on the sketch comedy stage.
