Askeladden i Dovregubbens hall |
In the movie "Askeladden i Dovregubbens hall," Espen is a young man who is often overlooked and underestimated by his family and the people in his village. Despite this, he has a strong sense of justice and always tries to do the right thing, even when it goes against the expectations of others.
One day, Espen's village is threatened by the vicious Mountain King, a powerful troll who is said to be sleeping deep within the mountains. According to legend, the only way to wake the Mountain King is if the princess is not married by the time she turns 18. With this deadline fast approaching, the king becomes desperate to find a suitable husband for his daughter, Princess Kristin.
When Prince Frederik arrives and asks for Princess Kristin's hand in marriage, the king is overjoyed and decides that Kristin will marry him, even if she is not in agreement. Kristin, however, is not interested in Frederik and runs away from the castle in the middle of the night, leaving a knife stuck in the portrait of Frederik as her only message.
As Kristin is running away, she is struck by Espen's horse and thrown into the river. Espen tries to make friends with Kristin, but she finds him annoying and ignores him until he offers her food. Despite her initial resistance, Kristin eventually warms up to Espen and the two of them set out on a journey to stop the Mountain King and save the kingdom.
