The Rings of Power returns to the Second Age on 11 November 2026, and its new season 3 trailer makes the stakes unmistakable: Sauron is closing in on the One Ring. Prime Video's action-packed preview, released on 21 October, is set seven years after season 2, at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron.

The trailer moves from Mordor's magma fields to the front lines of the war. High King Ereinion Gil-galad, played by Benjamin Walker, rallies his forces, while Gandalf is still grappling with his identity and the ousted Numenorean sea captain Elendil, played by Lloyd Owen, faces an uncertain future. Galadriel's voiceover warns: "We are, all of us, on the path to ruin now." Elrond's response is blunt: "We have no choice but to act." The trailer ends with Sauron on his throne, staring at the ring he has forged.

New cast members join the season, including Eddie Marsan as Thrain and Andrew Richardson as Anarion, alongside an original character. The season also introduces new flying and burrowing creatures, widening the scale of Middle-earth beyond the battles seen so far.

The Rings of Power season 3 release date and where to watch

Season 3 premieres on 11 November 2026 on Prime Video. Viewers will be able to stream it there, with the season building directly from the war and ring-forging storylines set up in season 2. Fantasy television is having a strong season, with Paapa Essiedu's new Harry Potter casting also driving debate, and long-running fantasy performers such as Kavan Smith, known for his fantasy television work, showing how durable the genre remains.

What happens next is the key question for fans: whether Galadriel, Elrond and Gil-galad can unite in time, and how Sauron's dominance will reshape the alliances of the Second Age. The trailer suggests the answer will be darker, larger and more desperate than anything the series has shown so far.
