Mantooth praised Shlesinger for building a distinctive comedic voice that continues to push traditional storytelling boundaries across multiple platforms.

Busy Slates and Upcoming Film Premieres

Sorvino enters the festival season following several major screen projects. She recently concluded production on the anticipated sequel to the cult comedy favorite "Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion." Outside of that comedic follow-up, she appears in director Nick Vallelonga's upcoming project "That’s Amore," sharing the screen with John Travolta.

Additionally, Sorvino is part of the ensemble cast for the ballet drama "Prima," acting alongside Faye Dunaway, Nicola Peltz Beckham, and Jack Huston. These varied upcoming releases span comedy and dramatic narratives, emphasizing the dynamic choices that led to her Virtuoso honors.

Shlesinger also maintains an active release calendar across both stand-up and narrative feature filmmaking. Her upcoming comedy special, titled "Iliza Shlesinger: A Different Animal," is slated to debut on Prime Video in March. Alongside her stand-up work, she recently crossed over into a leading big-screen role with the romantic comedy "Chasing Summer."

Festival Programming Updates and Additions

Directed by Josephine Decker, "Chasing Summer" initially made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. In conjunction with Shlesinger's honor, festival programmers confirmed that the feature has also been added to the official San Diego screening slate for audiences attending this year's edition.

Beyond "Chasing Summer," the San Diego International Film Festival announced two other additions to its 2026 programming lineup. Audiences will see the screening of "Elsinore," directed by Simon Stone and starring Andrew Scott, as well as "La Bola Negra," directed by the collaborative duo Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi.

The broader San Diego International Film Festival runs from October 13 through October 18, 2026, launching with the Night of the Stars festivities in La Jolla before proceeding with its full slate of screenings.
