Erin Foster, the creator of the Netflix romantic comedy series "Nobody Wants This," has publicly addressed recent political statements made by lead actor Adam Brody. Speaking on an episode of Amanda Hirsch's "Not Skinny but Not Fat" podcast, Foster clarified that while she maintains a different stance from Brody regarding his remarks on Palestine, she accepts their difference in opinion.

Foster Responds to Brody's Political Remarks
Foster's comments arrived after Brody discussed his view on the Israel-Gaza conflict during a recent profile with GQ. When asked about the situation, Brody made his position clear, stating he supported a free Palestine and characterized the ongoing events as a genocide.
Appearing on Hirsch's podcast, Foster addressed Brody's viewpoint directly and compared the atmosphere behind the scenes of the television series to everyday conversations.
"You know, it’s complicated," Foster said regarding Brody's public remarks. "I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing. And, you know, while I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s OK."
A Focus on Jewish Representation in 'Nobody Wants This'
In "Nobody Wants This," Brody stars opposite Kristen Bell, playing a rabbi who enters a relationship with an agnostic, non-Jewish woman. Foster drew inspiration for the story from her personal journey of converting to Judaism before her marriage.
Following Brody's GQ interview, some viewers of the series expressed criticism and backlash. In response to the audience reaction, Foster directly acknowledged the show's Jewish viewership during her podcast appearance, emphasizing the foundational purpose behind the series.
"The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show," Foster said. "It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person. And sitting here right now, at this time in the world when there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that."
Foster noted that while she wants Jewish viewers to feel heard and understood, she also recognizes that individuals involved in creative projects will hold diverse viewpoints, adding that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Brody's Previous Remarks on Public Discussions
Brody, who was raised in a Jewish family and has previously described himself as not religious, noted during his GQ interview that he frequently discusses the conflict in his private life. However, he had rarely addressed it publicly because the topic had not typically been raised by interviewers.
Brody explained that roughly 99 percent of the questions he receives center entirely on his television projects rather than political matters. He stated that while he does not go out of his way to prompt such questions, he does not avoid political topics when asked directly.
"Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine," Brody stated to GQ. "It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago."
Foster's reflections on their professional collaboration highlight the differing perspectives held within the creative team. Season 3 of "Nobody Wants This" is currently streaming on Netflix.
