Angel Studios has established a new set of content rules titled "The Angel Promise," officially codifying strict limits on explicit material across its productions and distribution network. Co-founder and Chief Content Officer Jeff Harmon announced the platform's updated standards, which explicitly prohibit on-screen depictions of sexual activity, nudity, use of the F-word, and the misuse of God's name, while simultaneously giving paying subscribers direct influence over what gets made.

New Standards Defined Under 'The Angel Promise'

The policy marks a formal framework for the Christian production company and distributor, which marked its fifth year in operation following its 2021 launch. According to Harmon, the guidelines are designed to eliminate content that alienates family audiences while expanding parental control features on the studio's viewing platform.

Under "The Angel Promise," creative projects distributed by the studio must adhere to firm boundaries that eliminate vulgarity and explicit imagery. Alongside the creative guidelines, the platform is enhancing backend parental controls to allow families greater oversight of what household members can view across the catalog.

Critique of the Mainstream Studio Model

Speaking to Fox News regarding the shift, Harmon argued that the traditional entertainment industry has gradually detached itself from conservative and faith-oriented viewers. While praising the craft of traditional entertainment creators, he framed the current market landscape as one that creates unnecessary hurdles for family audiences seeking clean entertainment.

"I think Hollywood generally kind of lives in a bubble," Harmon stated. "These are excellent craftsmen. They’re the best storytellers in the world. Hollywood has built the best storytelling infrastructure in the world. But at the same time, they’ve kind of drifted more and more away from the values-based audience that they used to serve."

Harmon explained that his perspective as a parent guided the studio's choice to formalize the policy, noting that finding reliable entertainment had become a chore. He added that the studio set out to address this gap by prioritizing the preferences of everyday viewers outside major coastal media centers.

Subscriber Governance via the Angel Guild

Central to the company's operating strategy is the Angel Guild, a subscriber network reported to include 3 million members. Guild members pay for subscriptions that provide them with voting rights on prospective projects, effectively deciding which shows and films are financed and greenlit for the platform.

Harmon noted that through this membership infrastructure, the studio grants its core audience direct veto power over the catalog. By outsourcing development decisions to its subscriber base, the company aims to circumvent traditional executive greenlighting and ensure projects conform strictly to audience expectations.

Production Track Record and Company History

Established in 2021 by Harmon, his brothers, and their cousin, Angel Studios initially gained significant industry attention through its theatrical rollout of the 2023 release *Sound of Freedom*. The studio subsequently expanded its slate to include features such as 2025's *The King of Kings* and 2026's *Animal Farm*.

As the studio continues to release titles, its leadership remains committed to combining its community-funded model with rigid content boundaries. Moving forward, the effectiveness of "The Angel Promise" will be tested as the company balances its restrictive creative guidelines with its ambitions to produce competitive feature releases for mainstream and faith-based moviegoers alike.
